Born and educated in Detroit, Michigan, Ted Wallingford has been working in the data communications field since 1994. His first technology job was with an apparel manufacturer in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He also served as Worldwide I.T. Administrator for the J. Walter Thompson Company in Detroit. Ted later moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he became Information Technology Director for Independence Excavating, one of the largest heavy-highway contractors in the United States, leading a variety of ambitious and successful networking, software, business process, and telecommunications projects.
He also served as a consulting systems engineer with LCG Technologies Corp., based in Baltimore, MD, before founding Best Technology in Elyria, Ohio in 2005. As Lead Business Consultant at Best Technology, Ted maintains an active daily consulting schedule, remaining a strategically important figure within the halls of the company’s largest clients while leading a team of dedicated, highly-knowledgeable business consultants. Together with the team, Ted shares a vision of the success of Best Tech’s clients.
O’Reilly Media has published two of Ted’s books about unified business communication. These books focus on Voice over IP, a technology that has permitted the convergence of telephones, PCs, software, and networks in recent years. Switching to VoIP has been O’Reilly Media’s best-selling VoIP book in its category, and has been called, “the voice of reason in an industry full of hype,” and remains the go-to guide for systems engineers looking for a serious hands-on exploration of VoIP technology.
Ted has been a keynote speaker and panelist at events such as VON Enterprise and MuniWireless, and has appeared on NPR’s Talk of the Nation Science Friday radio program.
